Hello, my name is Emma.

I am a registered Yoga Teacher with 500 hours training. I run regular classes in the Newcastle area, at Merewether SLSC, Carrington Community Centre and sunrise beach yoga classes at Bar Beach in Spring and Summer. I am also available for functions, events and corporate yoga and stress management workshops and pre and postnatal yoga classes and workshops.

I first discovered Yoga in early 2014. I cannot remember the exact time or date, but I will always remember the feeling it gave me. It was early winter; the studio was dimly lit with candles and the air was filled with a thick scent of incense. The teacher had an amazing energy, making the class feel comfortable and at ease, it was that experience alone that invoked in me a passion for yoga that still continues until this day.

In 2016 I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training at Upaya Yoga in Goa, India and then returned again in early 2019 to complete a further 300 hour yoga teacher training to complete my 500 hr accreditation.

At the opening ceremony for my 300 hour course we had to introduce ourselves and state why we came to Upaya Yoga and why we wanted to be a yoga teacher, my answer was easy. ‘I love the way yoga makes me feel and I want to help other people feel that way too.’

No matter what has been going on in my life, yoga has always taught me to feel. It has taught me to feel into my emotions whether it be negative or positive and this has helped me through bouts of anxiety and periods of struggle. Yoga teaches me daily to be a better person through self-discipline, mindfulness, the art of slowing down, listening to my body and treating my body well.

My intention as a yoga teacher is to extend the joy and feeling yoga has given me, to my students. I aim to incorporate what I have learnt from my time in the east, into our lives here in the west to help us to find balance, happiness and lead more fulfilling lives.
